Paleistų iš laisvės atėmimo vietų asmenų adaptacijos visuomenėje problemos ir jų sprendimo būdai

The adaptation in society of the persons who are set free from the places of imprisonment is a very urgent social problem in Lithuania. Nobody was interested in this problem in our country for a long time. The questions about these people’s adaptation in the society, about such problems and the ways how to solve them are being discussed only nowadays. For successful work with these people it is necessary to have a solid system of social help which must be based on mutual co-operation of different state institutions, non-state organizations and people interested in these problems. The aim of this work is to clear up the possibilities of getting a job and the problems of integration into the society of the people who came back from the places of imprisonment and to present the possible ways how to solve these problems. The work consists of four parts. The meanings of adaptation and its process, the analysis of social attitude towards those who have been convicted, also the problems of adaptation in the society and their peculiarities and the reasons why these problems appeared are described and analysed in the first part. In the second part the laws of Lithuanian Republic, Government decisions and other statements showing how to give social help for persons who came back from places of imprisonment are analysed. In the third part it is shown how state institutions and non-state organizations carry out their activities to solve adaptation of former prisoners. Different projects and programs devoted to decision of earlier mentioned problems carried out by these institutions are described in this part too. In the fourth part the results of questionnaire filled by the persons who are set free from the places of imprisonment and the analysis of these results are presented. It is also tried to find out the most urgent problems and their reasons and to analyse the respondent’s activity and needs using the means of given help. At the end of the work conclusions are made and suggestions how it would be able to improve the system of social help are described.
