The alternative source of energy, biofuel is analyzed in this paper. Biofuel is a fuel from renewable sources of energy (RSE). The problem is how to achieve the proper level of biofuel production and usage in the plane of International engagement. The paper consists of two main parts which are theoretical and practical. In the second part, there are composed surveys, also their results presented and analyzed. World countries, including EU, when signing Kyoto protocol, have undertaken until the year 2012 to reduce the amount of exhausted greenhouse gas to the atmosphere to 8 per cent, comparing with the year 1990. Lithuania has also undertaken the same obligations. The current situation of biofuel production is analyzed in this paper, comparing it to other countries. What are the perspectives in the future in terms of the usage of biofuel is analysed. There are reviewed the legal acts that are regulating the usage and production of biofuel. The questionnaire survey of the biggest Lithuanian producers of biofuel was performed, as well as the experiment with biodyzel. It is obviuos from the results of the survey and research, that the quality of biofuel does not give its ground to common mineral fuel; therefore, its usage gives a manifold benefit. After evaluating the current situation of biofuel, reviewing legal acts that are regulating the production and usage of biofuel, performing the survey and research, I came to the conclusion, that Lithuania is significantly developing the production and usage of biofuel. Lithuania has to achieve the proper level of biofuel production until the year 2012 (the requirements of Kyoto protocol). In my opinion, the main obstacles, which can arise, while striving for the proper level of biofuel production, can be the lack of biofuel raw materials, insufficient conveyance of information on this point, complicated requirements of the projects, aiming to get the EU support for development the business branch of biofuel production...
