Paper “Good practice of social services for children and families in Lithuania” reveals good practice of social services for families and children at social risk. The main key words are: good practice, family at social risk, child at social risk, social services, and social services institution. Both scientific literature analysis and research data has showed that social services are very important part of social support system in Lithuania. Social services system meets the human needs in order to improve the physical, psychological and social well-being of family at social risk. Social services in democratic society are meant to safeguard the individual rights of every person in a view of the principle that every human being has the right to live and enjoy the basic necessities of life. According research data, effective social services and models of good practice can be found in Lithuania, however, to encourage more changes in supporting families at social risk, social services need to be created, reinforced, developed and adjusted to recent changes in our society. Research data disclose that good practice of social services for families and children can be defined as integration of best methods, teamwork including knowledge of specific problems context and values (central to these values are the respect for the equality, worth, and dignity of all people). It is also the conscientious, explicit and judicious use of current best strategies in making decisions about the care of individuals, also collaboration between organizations working in the social field. As far as social services institutions are discussed, they try to provide competent, appropriate social services and support for families at social risk.
