Abstract
The master thesis is dedicated to the doctrine of corporate veil in case law of the European Court of Human Rights. It describes the history of origin and formation of the veil-piercing in the ECtHR, analyses the approaches to the doctrine in the Member States of the Council of Europe. The master thesis reviews two main purposes of the veil-piercing: for protection of shareholders' interests in a company and for holding them liable. It considers the possibility to hold the State (as an owner or a majority shareholder) liable for the company's obligations. The work analyses the impact of the ECtHR case law on the Ukrainian court practice.
