Marriage is the traditional foundation of a family, so its dissolution means the breakdown of a family. Marriage may be dissolved on mutual agreement/consent of both spouses, on application of one of the spouses, or due to the fault of both or one of the spouses. The goal of the graduation paper to carry out the detailed analysis and comparison of the acts of the civil law of Lithuania and foreign states regulating peculiarities of marriage dissolution has been achieved through the research of the Master course student. The marriage dissolution as a civil law institute has been defined, the ways of marriage dissolution prescribed by the civil law of the Republic of Lithuania and the European states have been revealed and the differences and similarities of said institutes have been compared. The laws, post-legal acts and other statutory acts, which currently regulate the marriage dissolution institute in Lithuania and foreign states, also court practice, statistic data on marriage and dissolution have been analyzed in the graduation paper. The graduation paper consists of the introduction, two main parts, four sections, conclusions, list of references and summary in the Lithuanian and English languages. The statistic data related to marriages and dissolutions is appended to the paper.
