Summary The title of the present work is as follows – „The system of the sources of the international law in the field of marine environment protection of the Baltic Sea”. Keywords: marine environment, protection of marine environment, pollution, source of pollution, source of law, law system. The present work analyses sources of international law concerning protection of marine environment of the Baltic Sea (international agreements, international customs, decisions made by the International Court of Justice, recommendations of international organizations, and scientific doctrine) and introduces the system of these sources and their mutual interaction. In the first part of the present work the concept of a source of international law is presented. The second part of the present work includes a detailed analysis of universal and regional international agreements, customs and principles of international law, decisions of courts, scientific doctrine and recommendations of international organizations concerning protection of marine environment of the Baltic Sea. The European Community's normative acts concerning protection of marine environment of the Baltic Sea are analyzed in the third part of this work. The fourth part of the present work analyzes the effectiveness and expedience of implementation the norms of international law, regulating protection of marine environment of the Baltic Sea, into the Lithuanian law. Sources of international law concerning protection of marine environment of the Baltic Sea are being systematized in the fifth part of the present work by emphasizing their mutual interaction and legal power. Conclusions and proposals are presented at the end of the present work.
