For a number of years, family sociologists have been critical about the individualization for family life. Many of them propose necessity to go beyond gross generalization about the fate of ‘The’ family in modernity, much of their efforts were constrained within national borders, making family sociology victim of methodological nationalism. The aim of the book – to present a variety of empirical research on continuity and change of family within the European space, with respect to family understanding or theorizing, family transitions across individual life course, and family practices. The structure of the book is discussed in the chapter. It consist from three main parts and twelve chapters by authors from nine European countries.
