Abstract
During the last two decade, an unprecedented number of transitions (economic, socio-political, demographic and cultural) have taken place in Central and Eastern European countries, and among them, Lithuania (Sobotka 2002, Van de Kaa 2002, Macura et al. 2005, Chawla et al. 2007, Hoff 2008, Ovseiko 2008, Stankūnienė and Maslauskaitė 2008). The development path of Central and Eastern Europe is often seen as a unique one, unlike that of Western societies.
