The aim of the investigation presented in this article has been to establish the preparedness for professional career of the students Faculty of Public Security Mykolas Romeris University and its prospect. Having employed a special questionnaire of the students' inquest we have analysed the academic record, attitude to the studies order, penalties imposed on them during the studies and further professional prospect of the students Faculty of Public Security. Aiming to reveal the factors influencing professional career we have established the student temperament, character accentuation 's, the social status and education of their parents and relation with the system of internal affairs. 1276 students - 559 girls and 717 boys, i.e. 98.3 per cent of all the students who had entered the Faculty of Public Security in 1998-2001 participated in the investigation. According to the data of our investigation 20.5 per cent of girls and 13.9 per cent of boys (p<O.OO I) who had completed the 1st stage of studies in Faculty of Public Security continued the studies in the faculties of Mykolas Romeris University; 29.1 per cent of girls and 56.7 per cent of boys (p<O.OO1) got employed in territorial police subdivisions; 48.1 per cent of girls and 25.2 per cent of boys (p<O.OOI) who had completed the ISI stage of studies did not get employed in the system of internal affairs or chose another specialty. According to the data of statistics during the period of studies twice less penalties were imposed on girls than on boys (accordingly 5.2 per cent and 9.9 per cent, p<0.05), the girls were studying more studiously (their academic record in comparison with the academic record of boys was evaluated accordingly by 7.63 per cent and 7.51 points).
