Activities of social workers assisting families of social risk groups to satisfy the needs of their children

Abstract

In Lithuania though every year a decrease of social risk families, as well as of the number of children growing in them, the problem that parents are not capable to create proper conditions for physical and moral development of the child and to secure the basic needs of their child still remains, and this determines the relevance of the issue. In terms of scientific literature the issue of social risk families is a popular one - it has been investigated in various aspects by both in Lithuanian and foreign authors. The occurrence of social risk families, the most common problems they face with, the status of such families in the society and the performance of family functions have been analysed by quite a number of authors. I. Leliugiene (2003), G. Kondrotaite ir J. Guscinskiene (2006), G. Kondrotaite (2006), A. R. Matos, L. M. Sousa, (2004), C. Sutton (1999), L. C.Johnson (2003) investigate this issue very particularly and universally in their works. The goal of the research is to disclose the potential of social workers in assisting the social risk families to satisfy the needs of their children.
