Policy of Higher Education of the Republic of Lithuania from 1920 to 1922: Was the University of Lithuania Established for the Interests of the National State or the Public Needs? The article analyses the compromise reached between the Government of Lithuania, the Constituent Assembly and the society on the issue of the University of Lithuania and the positions of the intellectuals of that time, historians Augustinas Voldemaras and Augustinas Janulaitis among them, concerning the discussion and adoption of the statute of the University of Lithuania between 1921 and 1922.
