Abstract (en)
The paper deals with the metaphorical representation of EU in the speeches of EU politicians. The analysis reveals several conceptual metaphors in the discourse. The traditional metaphor of state as person is still valid in the discourse, but it is found that the equality of all states-persons is not quite compatible with the idea of equality of all citizens. The politicians tried to adopt the traditional state conception in the description of EU and this resulted in several oxymoronic expressions. In order to avoid the traditional terminology, the politicians developed new conceptual meta-phors, including the metaphor of change and movement which represented EU dy-namically.
