Information sources are becoming increasingly important in modern employment relations. Confidential information is a highly sensitive issue of the employer’s ownership and business. On the other hand, labour regulations must consider the fact that employee is a weaker (economically, administratively, legally) party to the employment relationship. Therefore, the problem of protection of confidential information in employment relations and its settlement becomes very important. This paper aims to investigate the preconditions established in Lithuanian legislation for the protection of confidential information. Paper presents an overview of the concept of confidential information, which is accepted in Lithuanian legislation and case law. Also, it evaluates different regulatory mechanisms for the protection of confidential information and presents liability arising from breaches of the protection of confidential information by employees.
