This paper deals with the ethnic identity of the former Serbo-Croatian language or Croato-Serbian, officially as a common native and literary language of four nations of the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia: Serbs, Croats, Muslims (Bosniaks today) and Montenegrins. The goal of this research is to offer a valuable contribution in clarification of the question to whom this language belonged from the ethnic point of view.
