Abstract (en)
The family, and changes in the family, have been a subject of political and public debate and an object of scientific research since the inception of the social sciences. The researches presented in the book reveals that changes have most likely been very gradual, and in some areas non–existent. Past societies were not fully restricted, and nor do contemporary societies give individuals a broad autonomy of choice when it comes to family matters. However, there is a need not only carry out empirical work on new family realities, but also to develop new theories and approaches towards the family, and investigate it from various angles at once.
