Parents are a constituent part of the school community; therefore, one of the key objectives of school is to promote parental engagement in the activity of the school community. Collaboration between the school and parents allows teachers and parents to learn from each other and stipulates effective resolution of social problems. According to sociological surveys and school practice, all parents are interested in the communication with schools and teachers; the problem is that measures and ways for involvement of parents into this co-operation are not yet specified. Referring to the analysis of the scientific literature and the data of the empirical study executed in six Lithuanian schools, this article presents the principles of collaboration between school and parents, steps for the establishment of this collaboration and key collaboration trends.
