Abstract
The work is devoted to the analysis of the legal status of International Seabed Area (the Area) and problems arising in the use of spaces and resourses of this marine zone. The purpose of this work is to give an extensive overview of the basic legal principles and rules concerning legal regime, the marine scientific research, exploration and eksploatation mineral resuorces in this area. The International Seabed Area consists of the seabed and ocean floor and subsoil beyond the limits of any nation’s jurisdiction and is governing by International Seabed Authority (ISA), which organize, coordinate and control activities in this zone with a view to administrate and development it mineral resources. It should be noted that the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) provides several fundamental principles such as the seafloor and sea-bed beyond national jurisdiction are shared as part of the „common heritage of mankind“, the heritage must be used for the general benefit of mankind. The 1982 UNCLOS and 1994 Agreement relating to the implementation of Part XI of the UNCLOS are main normative documents consolidate the institute of the International Seabed Area.
