The growth of the importance of small and medium-sized business as well as its influence on the economic development of the country make the society to consider business as a perspective branch of economics. Besides, Lithuania started to give more attention on the economic development of every region. This paper tends to investigate the strategic planning of small and medium-sized business in Šalčininkų region. According to the Department of Statistics that region is the least developed in Vilniaus district. Therefore, the main purpose of the present research was to find out what condition of business is in Šalčininkų region and what main obstacles of business development are there. The present study relied on the given opinions of local businessmen as well as village headmen, who were asked to fill in the questionnaires. Two hundred and thirty-six businessmen of Šalčininkai and thirteen village headmen’s questionnaires were grouped, analyzed and discussed in the present research. When the questionnaires were analyzed, results and suggestions were proposed in the end of the research. The results have shown that businessmen need more courses based on management as well as the information about the present situation of small and medium-sized business. Therefore, it was suggested to organize some more courses in Šalčininkų region and to inform businessmen about the situation of small and medium-sized business regularly.
