SUMMARY The topic of the work is “The alternatives of physical penalties for children”. The main keywords are: aggression, penalty, physical penalties, physical constraint. Nowadays, penalties are one of the most actual problems in our society. The researches show, that such experience causes different negative effects in juveniles’ and even adults’ behavior and is tightly bound up with problems of their adaptation, communication and development. There is no need in getting rid of penalties in a child’s nurture, but these should be replaced with the alternatives of physical penalties. Hence the main purpose of this work is to study and analyze the alternative ways of disciplining children. In this work the following subjects are being analyzed: the conception and reasons of physical penalties, the influence of these penalties on a child’s social development, the alternatives of physical penalties. There was a survey about the opinion of physical penalties and their alternatives between children, their parents and social personnel. This survey’s results show us, that more than a half of children and social workers believe physical penalties are ineffective. By contraries, the parents still think, that physical penalties are rather effective. Punishable children start to feel hard, and social workers support this opinion, but not the obedience and fault, as their parents believe. The majority of children claimed, that they will limit some pleasures of their future offspring, but will not shout on them, as their parents currently do. The social workers believe this kind of attitude is correct. This research proved the hypothesis, that a positive opinion on physical punishment determines the alternative choice.
