The aid of the state to the family is the whole of monetary allowances, compensations and social services which aims to encourage and help the families to perform their functions, to solve the arising problems independently, to ensure the safe conditions for the functioning of the families. At present the aid to the family is orientated to the rendering of monetary support, to be precise – to the compensation of the costs of growing children. The family aid system touches most of Lithuanian families: some families get allowances, other – services, etc. So it is very important to ascertain the attitude of the families to the means of the state aid, their importance and effectiveness. The data collected during the research prove that the attitude of the respondents to the state aid to the family is not formed substantially. The contradictions and the absence of clear opinion are typical of the respondents’ answers. During the research the great reliance on the government as the organ of the power showed up which is able to change both the life of a particular family and such popular phenomenon as birthrate. The most desirable way of aid is monetary support. The growing of a child becomes more and more important circumstance enabling to pretend to the state aid to the family. The development of monetary support as one of the parts of the support to the family determines the uneven development of the entire system. Only after having combined the means of aid complexly it will be possible to establish the effective system of the support to the family. The results of the research reveal the attitude of the respondents to the aid of the state as to: the guarantee of the stability and security of the family; the constant source of revenue; the factor able to influence the birthrate; the necessary source of aid after the birth of a child.
