This work focuses attention on both the provision of register data and data protection. The guarantee of provision of register data as well as safeguarding of the data in the process of the provision of register data are of extreme importance, as the data stored in registers is an enormous amount of information concerning people and other objects necessary and important to both state-owned institutions and the private sector as well. That is why it is very important to ensure organizational and technical measures of these data protection. So in order to provide data-manager with proper conditions for taking all possible security measures, they should be clearly, concretely and definitely formalised by data-proprietor in corresponding documents. Great attention has also been paid to combining national law with acquis requirements in this paper. After having become a member of the European Union Lithuania is seeking to have its acts of law, witch establish personal data protection, corresponding to the requirements of the European Union. Correspondingly the changing of the law on legal protection of personal data has been initiated seeking to combine this law with Directive 95/46/EC of the European parliament and of the council on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data and the requirements of the Convention for the protection of individuals with regard to automatic processing of personal data (ETS No 108) as amended by the committee of ministers of the Council of Europe. Nowadays one of the most dominant topics in data protection it is also one of the greatest problems in the development of world’s informational infrastructure. Inefficiently protected data can be used for illegal purpose or competition. Law Amending the Law on State Registers has enabled to take care of data protection as well as standardize the establishment of register this making their integration easier. In order to carry out these laws State data protection inspectorate has been established. It is an independent institution. The supervision of personal data processing not only at state but also private institutions is within the competence of State data protection inspectorate; it also helps to ensure the transparency for data subjects as well as data proprietors. Consequently no questions concerning which institution to appeal to arise.
