Abstract

The theme of this final work is- Drug Addiction Prevention in Panevėžys Region. Drug Addiction is serious and fast pervasive illness. Many various means of prevention are being taken in order to prevent the spread of drug addiction. There are different means of primary, secondary and tertiary drug addiction prevention. According to R.Gordon’s model, primary drug addiction prevention is divided to three more groups: Universal, Selective and Indicated. Since 2001 municipality is taking part in prevention campaigns against drug addiction. Local governments in the cities of Panevėžys region have established Drug Control Committees, which along with Police, Children Rights Protection Service and Education System is proceeding in active drug addiction prevention. Generally, municipalities are involved in drugs addiction prevention activities by organizing various events, quizzes or contests, which helps to attract more attention to drugs addiction issue. Lectures on narcotic and psychotropic substances are being given not only to pupils, but also to their parents and teachers. There is a big effort to provide useful information for kids about subsequence and harm, which could be done by taking drugs, in most acceptable ways – by arranging games, meetings, conversations and discussions. Usually, prevention activity is taking place in the schools. Pedagogues not only present various projects on drugs addiction subject, but also put the ideas into practice. All of the schools in Panevėžys Region are taking part in this big movement. It is important to mention, that parents are involved as much as their children.
