Using Lithuania as a case study, this research examines how migration intensifies the challenges faced by single mothers, expanding the triple-bind theory to address intersecting resource, employment, and policy gaps in the migration context. It draws on qualitative data from 30 semi-structured interviews with Lithuanian single mothers who migrated to Germany, Norway, and the UK, alongside a comparative review of welfare policies in these countries. The interviews illuminate migrant single mothers′ lived experiences, while the policy review highlights the strenghts and gaps in support systems. Findings show that challenges compound over time, with the initial stage of migration being the most difficult. Mothers confront language barriers, limited social networks, and unfamiliarity with local systems, alongside precarious employment and housing, with little to no policy support. Being apart from children is emotionally difficult, and once reunification occurs, mothers face new practical challenges. Over time, difficulties shift and ease as mother adapt and gain access to support within host countries. These insights underscore the need for tailored support to buffer the vulnerabilities, particularly during the early stages of migration when resources and information are scarce, pointing to how migration reshapes the triple bind of single motherhood.
