Lithuania saw slight changes in incidence of syphilis over the last few years: from 9.6 to 7.6 cases/100 000 population in 2009 and 2012, respectively. Method. Analysis of the national STI database for 2009-2012 was carried out. Results. In 2012, there were 227 reported cases of acquired syphilis in Lithuania and one case of congenital syphilis (CS) compared to 330 cases (4 cases of CS) in 2009 and 347 cases (2 cases of CS) in 2010. IDUs (opiate users) account for 70% of all reported HIV cases in Lithuania. The period of 2007-2012 saw a groeth in heterosexual HIV transmission. One of the likely reasons is unprotected sex with IDUs. Method. A cross-sectional study of active IDUs and sexual partners of IDUs. 400 active injecting drug users (329 males and 71 females) participated in the BBS using the RDS sampling method. Respondents were asked to invite their main sexual partners (not active IDUs) to take part in BBS. IDUs and their main sexual partners completed behavioural questionnaires and underwent a blood test for HIV, syphilis, anti-HBc and anti-HCV. [...].
