Abstract
In contemporary Europe lifelong learning is identified as the mean whereby states can both retain their competitive economic edge, but also achieve social cohesion and stability. People's skills must be constantly renewed to enable them to meet the challenges of ever-evolving technologies, increasing internationalisation and demographic changes. Nowadays, lifelong learning is a key to jobs and growth, as well as to allow everyone the chance to participate fully in society. Different social, economical, technological, political and cultural changes have all had an influence on the definition of career. Such changes force the employers and employees to keep improving themselves, perhaps to change their qualifications and find new skills, i. e. to continue learning all their life or to use life long learning methods (LLL). This way proposes a new understanding for the term career and includes more new concepts that eliminates the stereotypes and destroys the classical attitudes. Article is presenting Lithuania's strategy for lifelong learning and the initiatives and actions prioritized for the future. It is the Lithuania's contribution to a realization of the common objectives of the Lisbon strategy.
