The number of social network users is rapidly increasing. New services became available through social network sites. These sites allow users to create personal profiles, to edit them, to exchange various types of information, to post messages to the Internet. However, the amount of disclosed personal information is becoming a threat to the users of social networks. There are some possible risks and threats related with identity fraud, personal data thefts, stalking and viral advertising. This article analyses problematic aspects of privacy and personal data disclosure in online social networks. According to research, many people give their private information freely without understanding the damage which could be done to their personal lives. Author suggests few methods which could help to improve private information protection in online social networks.
