Abstract
An example may be the problem of pronouncing legal Latin terms. It is not easy to explain why the same formulaic Latin term in Lithuanian and English contexts is pronounced differently. For this reason we discussed the difficulties of teaching and learning legal Latin terms as well. The vast majority of pronunciation errors appears under the influence of one’s native language and frequently reflects the sound system of L1. Compared to that of the L2, the nature of errors the students will make may be predicted. However, the students we work with come from different language backgrounds, thus we basically concentrated on the difficulties that may be encountered by the speakers of Lithuanian and Russian languages. We believe the issues presented in the article might be interesting and helpful for the teachers of legal English.
