The citizenship education is seen as one of the most important factors of student's socialisation. The author describes the main historical sources and the four phases for the designing the citizenship education system in Lithuania: 1. Stating the main aims and goals for citizenship education. 2. Developing the content for the citizenship education. 3. The most effective ways and means for educating civil skills, abilities, attitudes and knowledge. 4. Developing the evaluation system. This system is under the strong importance and it requires support from different kind of specialists.
