Lithuanian Tatars are a unique ethnic group of Tatars which settled in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania over 6 centuries ago, in the 14-16th centuries. The name "Lithuanian Tatars" is used as a synonym for "Polish Tatars" or "Polish-Lithuanian Tatars". Thus it is only natural that Lithuanian Tatars residing in the area of the present day Belarus are called "Belarusian Tatars'* As what is Belarus today used to be a part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the period of the shaping and prosperity of the Duchy, the latter are of the same origin as Lithuanian (Polish-Lithuanian) Tatars. The book containing articles on the history and current status of Lithuanian Tatars, co-authored by Stanislaw Dumin and Adas Jakubauskas, is a more comprehensive and detailed study of the subject matter.
