The family ramains one of the most important institution in a modern society, but the concept of a family has changed a lot and nowadays, as A. Giddens1 points out, we can’t describe “family” as one universal model without considering variety that this term involves. The author also emphasises that the increase in the variety of different forms of family generates the crisis of patriarchal authority and power relations2. The opposition to traditional family based on patriarchal relationship and power division is an egalitarian family where power, domestic responsibilities and child care is shared more-or-less equally by either partners or spouses that seek to create harmonious egalitarian relationship.
