Abstract
The challenges in nursing higher education is analysed in this article. In the first part of the article aspects of development of nursing as science are discussed. The main Bologna process events, declarations and their influence on the changes in Lithuanian higher education are presented. The second part is intended to overview the development of nurses' competence within the study process in the context of advanced practice which represents future nursing science, practice and professional perfection. This is a new attitude in the world to the nursing which capacitate to create nursing reasoned by practical experience, established nursing knowledge and possibilities to develop the quality of nursing and health care services.
