Peculiarities of the assessment of a profession chosen by students applying on the data of practice

Abstract

The investigation deals with the practice, which was carried out during the school year of 2005 - 2006 by the students of Kaunas Faculty of Police of Mykolas Romeris University, results. Applying on the certified study plan, every year our students fulfill the practice of 16 weeks (16 credits) in territorial police units. The results of the practice are assessed according to the special journals of practice that have been completed by the students, and the records from territorial police units where students fulfilled practice. The aim of investigation is to ascertain the attitude of future police officers towards the chosen profession and its evaluation after the fulfillment of practice, and to analyze students' evaluation of different territorial police subdivisions. We have analyzed the results of practice of 158 students (82 female and 76 male) and also comparing the results according to sex. According to the data of our investigation almost half 45% of students liked the practice very much (48,8% of female and 40,8% of male), and only 3,2% of students (3,6% of female and 2,2% of male) stated that they did not like the practice (p<0,001). 50% of students (42,5% of female and 58,6% of male) liked the practice in territorial subdivisions of Patrol Office. 48,7% of students (48,3% of female and 48,4% of male) think that the attitude of police officers employed in territorial units offices towards the students can be considered as very friendly. The results of investigation have been analyzed applying the methods of statistical analyze that were created by computer specialists of Kaunas Faculty of Police.
