The membership of Lithuania in the European Union rises the problem concerning the principle of equality and safeguarding the rights of socially vulnerable people in order to make equal opportunities to make business and to compete in the market. When the Law on social enterprises came into force on June 19th, 2004, the acquirement of the status of a social enterprise is new not only to Lithuania, but in regard to the European Union as well. Many EU Member States that have not regulated social enterprises in directives, regulations and other laws, as well as Lithuania, will undertake one more new measure to increase employment. The purpose of this article is to analyse laws on Social enterprises in France, Greece and Italy and to compare them with the draft of the Law on social enterprises of the Republic of Lithuania. In order to achieve this goal, descriptive, comparative and analytical methods are used in this article. The object of this research is a legal regulation of social enterprises that operate in foreign countries.
