As has been indicated on the Digital Agenda for Europe, the overall aim of the Agenda is to deliver sustainable economic and social benefits from a digital single market based on the fast internet and interoperable applications. This is a new document, which will determine development of Information Society in the European Union as well as in Lithuania till 2020. Over the past decade the development of Information Society in the whole European Union, including Lithuania, mainly has been determined by the eEurope Initiative, the eEurope 2005 Action Plan and, extremely, by the Strategy “i-2010 – A European Information Society for growth and employment”. After the restoration of its independence in 1990, there were no modern data transfer networks in Lithuania. We did not have computer networks, only - their pilot fragments. Lithuania over twenty years of its independence has made a significant progress. This became particularly evident after Lithuania's accession to the EU in 2004, especially in creating and developing information society, in particular, in the internet development. But Strategy i-2010 is ending this year. New Digital Agenda for Europe has been approved this year. This article is to discuss the development of the Lithuanian Information Society in the last decade and to discuss some possible challenges of this development of the next decade in the context of the Digital Agenda for Europe.
