Background: The relationship between the development of chronic noncommunicable diseases and smoking or alcohol consumption exists. regardless of young age smoking and alcohol consumption are prevalent among students. Aim of Investigation: to investigate smoking and alcohol consumption habits among students. Object of investigation: 1069 students: 540 females and 529 males, who entered faculty in 1998-2001. Methods of Investigation: The standardised questionnaire was created in Kaunas Police Faculty. the analysis of the main factors for students' health was based on respondents' answers to particular questions. The data of the investigation was analysed according to statistical methods. results of Investigation: More than half of respondents (62%)were non-smokers (57,6% of males and 70,1% of females, p<0.05). Every tenth female (9,3%) and one third of males (29,4%) smoked daily (regularly) (p<0,001). The rest part respondents smoked irregularly. the average number of smoked cigarettes was 7,6 cigarettes a day (4,5 cigarettes for females and 8,6 cigarettes for males, p<0,05). [...].
