The aim of the book is to examine the factors that have influenced the transformation of social policy in Lithuania, to explore the historical origins of the Lithuanian welfare state and to highlight its special features. The book also seeks to contribute to national and international debates on the role and importance of the welfare state in the modern society. The Lithuanian welfare state is analyzed in the con text of globalization and Europeanization. The welfare state is perceived as a multidimensional / heterogeneous phenomenon, influenced by a number of factors and thereby also forming these factors. The book focuses on major factors in shaping social policy: path-dependency (previous social policy choices), the views of the social policy experts, the impact of globalization and Europeanization as well as the impact from the economy and the role of political parties in shaping social policy.
