The paper examines the application of wind turbines in promoting their development in Lithuania and provides analysis on implementation of the policy on using wind as a renewable source in the power industry. The subject of the article is a promotion of the renewable sources in Lithuania by the exploitation of wind turbines. The report aims to analyze the significance of wind turbines for the state of the Baltic Sea environment. The qualitative study uses methods of literature sources and comparative analysis. The objectives are to identify the main reasons that lead to the exploitation of wind turbines in Lithuania and to assess possible negative environmental changes due to the unconsidered building of the offshore wind turbines in the Baltic Sea. The study results lead to recommendations, which are also supported by the best practices from the other Baltic region countries on implementation of the sustainable development strategy for the Baltic Sea region. The paper shows newly formed attitude towards the management of the Baltic Sea – the water resource that is distinguished by its unique natural features and part of which belongs to the territory of Lithuania. It also considers relevant issues on possibilities of the offshore wind power generation with promotion of science and technology integration and benefits to the society.
