Straipsnyje analizuojamas Lietuvos atvykstamasis turizmas ir jo vystimosi tendencijos. Nagrinėjama turizmo sampratos kilmė ir apbrėžimų įvairovė, atskleidžiami esminiai turizmą charakterizuojantys bruožai. Analizuojamas Lietuvos atvykstamojo turizmo vystimasis 1993 – 2010 metais ir jį įtakojantys veiksniai. Atskleidžiamos globalios problemos su kuriomis susiduria turizmo sektorius.
Social and economic development in Lithuania opened the possibility to integrate into the international tourism market. During the pos-Soviet transformation a significant moment was joining the Shengen area that has given the freedom of movement. The largest loss of the reorganization – the loss of East market share for political reasons. Based on survey results, the main tourism potential of the country - the four priority types of tourism: cultural, active recreation, business and health tourism with the biggest consideration for the last two. While formatting internationally competitive tourism product, it is proposed to draw bigger attention to the development of country’s image, purposeful marketing strategy, the use of tourism recourses for the development of infrastructure.
