Abstract

„GENDER MAINSTREAMING IN LITHUANIAIN LABOR MARKET “ Summary Key words: gender equality, gender mainstreaming, gender asymmetry, gender discrimination, discriminatory advertisements, employment of women, gender economical activity, horizontal gender segregation, vertical gender segregation, gender equality policy, gender statistics. Gender equality is a fundamental right, common value of the European Union and an important requirement seeking goals of development, employment and social cohesion. Lithuania has achieved a striking legislation progress in an implementation of legal opportunities between men and women. Nevertheless inequality de facto exists and has a tendency to grow, because global economical competition is growing and that requires more flexible and mobile labor force. This process causes more difficulties to women, which usually have worse possibilities integrating into society, because there is a lack of flexible work forms, social services, established gender stereotypes, domestic violence and unequal family responsibilities. Gender mainstreaming in this master thesis is an organization of political processes, reorganization, improvement, development and evaluation in such way that gender equality perspective would be incorporated in all political processes, all levels, stages and in all activities of political characters. In this master thesis author analyses the conception of gender mainstreaming, the different models of foreign countries equality policy, the legislation of Lithuanian equality policy, as well author carries out a secondary research on gender statistics, which discloses the discrimination of women and segregation of Lithuanian labor market.
