This research is innovative not only because of object of analysis, but the methodology, aimed at non-sexist methods and establishment of attitude change, as well. Considering the question making technique proposed by non-sexist studies, the questions of the survey avoided normative claims about gender roles and questions were made with answer alternatives such as “man”, “women”, “both equally”. The attitudes of Lithuanian women are generalised in the scale of modernism/traditionalism based on these answer alternatives. The first part defines the concept of identity, presents the search of woman’s identity and describes importance of gender in woman’s life and woman’s self-perception. The second part overviews the hidden historical woman evolution, defines woman’s role as the “Other” of a man. The concept of feminism and its impact on woman’s life is presented in the third part. The third part of the paper also analysis the legal documents of Lithuania and attitude of the society towards social roles of women after the restoration of Independence. The fourth part analysis the results of the research.
