The aim of this paper is to show contemporary family creation trends in Lithuania and the modern conception of family it self. The paper contains three chapters, the first two chapters cover the process of family transformation in Lithuania according to performed research study and statistic information. The situation in EU and Lithuania is compared. New ways of family creation are analyzed; their frequency and attitude to them are shown. This work shows that now more then ever before more and more families are created bypassing the marriage union and there is no negativity to it from society. In other words people are getting more liberal view toward changes. It is the most evident among younger generation. In the third chapter qualitative research was completed: family conception and value was researched. It showed that family is equally important to those who created it without getting married as to those, were married. Those, who live in marriage do not condemn those, who live together not married and call it a family. Negative attitude is shown only towards a disposition to always live like this. Cohabitation as a prelude to marriage is assessed positively. The research has shown that the respondents’ choices of the ways how to create a family depends on various personal and surrounding factors: parents do not approve living together without getting married; moving abroad, lack of time, personal attitude or children (planning or having them). These factors sometimes take away the possibility the way of creating a family.
