Abstract

The importance of physical attractiveness for choosing a spouse The master thesis consists of two parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part analyses importance of physical attractiveness when choosing a spouse. The review of marriage definition, creating the family in historical perspective, evolution and functions of family is presented. The evolution of marriage and family creating permits better understanding of priorities choosing a spouse. Presented review of investigations of Lithuanian and foreign scientists on topics such as definition of attractiveness, the value of priorities of physique and personality’s attributes and property gives a basis for a hypothesis of following investigation. The aim of practical part is to verify hypothesis about the value of attractiveness when choosing a spouse. There were selected questionnaires of 1030 persons who pretended to participate in TV reality show “Ideal match”. Statistical processing of the survey permits us to make such conclusions: physical attractiveness has its own value when choosing a spouse; women and man have different evaluation scales for a physical attractiveness. There are no essential differences between respondents of different age, employment, place of residence when evaluating attractiveness.
