Abstract

The most significant aspects that shows actuality of this final master degree work are too large number of prisoners in Lithuania, legal regulation of freedom deprivation punishment, possibly inefficient work of correctional institutions, help for released prisoners to integrate into society, difficulties and shortcomings in practical work of correctional institutions. It has to be said that all fields of correction, that ensure efficiency of freedom deprivation punishment, such as material maintenance or health care and so on, couldn’t be analysed fully in one master degree work because of the lack of space in it and needs special work to do on, so the main attention in this work is focused on improvement of prisoners’ correction. In this final master degree work in order to make suggestions on improvements on legal regulation of imprisonment, there is complex analysis of the main fields of correctional institutions’ work in realisation of freedom deprivation punishment in Lithuania, role of correctional institutions in punishment enforcement system and analysis of work in social rehabilitation of inmates, legal and social aspects of freedom deprivation punishment and problems of correctional facilities’ staff. In this final master degree work there are made suggestions on perspectives of improvement of correctional institutions work in order to get progressive experience of foreign countries in punishment enforcement policy. Also there is acknowledged that the main condition of correctional institutions’ work is quality of social rehabilitation and integration. Correctional process itself is one of the top priorities of correctional institutions, but it is not efficient enough, so it needs modernisation. After making analysis of final works results, there are made conclusions and suggestions on increasing efficiency of work during freedom deprivation punishment and on modification of national legal acts which regulate punishment enforcement. The key words of the final work are correctional institutions, freedom deprivation punishment and social rehabilitation.
