Forensic science can not ignore the latest achievements of science and technology. The adaptation of information technologies in forensic science increases the efficiency of employment and treatment of criminalistics information in work of before-the-trial investigation and judicial institutions. The efficacy and objectivity of solution of tasks of forensic science are constantly rising up, the range of forensic examinations becomes wider. Computers make police investigator’s work easier and save his time. It concerns not only preparation of process documents, but optimisation of strategical groups’ efforts and using computer as a source of criminalistics information, methodical and tactical recommendation of investigation, computer network too. The purpose of this work - to analyse practice of application of information technologies in investigation of crimes at a level of the police investigator and also to consider ways of exchange criminalistics information, using information technologies, between police officers of Lithuania and the countries of EU. Having analysed a legal regulation of application of information technologies in investigation of crimes, it was established, that in spite of the fact that many legal acts accepted by various state institutions adjusts this area, there are flaws in a regulation here and there still. In this work the analysis of the data received by questioning in police stations of city of Vilnius will be carried out, about what hardware and software are used by police investigators. The analysis has shown, that computer maintenance of these police stations passes very slowly, hardware and software have become outdated. Because of lack of state computers officers are compelled to use their own computers at work, except for that in police stations the question of not license software on use is actual till now. Despite of that, now policemen of Lithuania have an opportunity to use the updated system of electronic databases (registers), which history and present position are considered in the given work. In last section of work ways of exchange criminalistics information between policemen of Lithuania and the countries of EU applying information technologies are concidered - information systems of the Europol and the Schengen zone.
