Thesis topic – Competencies of social workers in promoting the independence of older people living in independent living homes. In order to identify the attitudes of social workers working in independent living homes for the elderly towards their existing competencies in promoting residents' independence, a quantitative research method of written survey was chosen. Statistical analysis of the research data was applied to the analysis of the research data, using descriptive (category frequencies, mean estimates, standard deviation) and multivariate (Chi square - χ2, ANOVA) statistical methods. The study was conducted in March-April 2026, interviewing social workers working with older people in independent living homes. The prepared survey questionnaire was distributed online using the survey creation tool – www.apklausk.lt. During the study, 94 social workers were interviewed. The results of the empirical study revealed that social workers working in independent living homes for the elderly are able to motivate residents to be independent, apply different working methods, help solve personal problems and make decisions, and enable residents to independently plan their daily activities. Social workers believe that older people should be able to do as many activities as possible themselves and knows which methods are most effective in promoting the independence of older people. The more competencies social workers have, the more their practical actions are directed towards promoting the independence of older people. The master's thesis consists of an introduction, two theoretical parts, a part on the methodology of the empirical research, a part on the description and interpretation of the empirical research, conclusions and recommendations.
