Ryšio su artimaisiais palaikymas laisvės atėmimo bausmės metu gali tapti itin reikšmingu sėkmingo asmens grįžimo į visuomenę veiksniu, tad be galo svarbu nuteistiesiems sukurti sąlygas matytis bei kitokiu būdu bendrauti su artimaisiais, galinčiais jiems daryti teigiamą įtaką bei teikti reikalingą pagalbą. Tyrimo tikslas.
The number of prisoners serving a custodial sentence in Lithuania is decreasing, but it is distinguished from other European countries by its high number of prisoners. According to the annual report of the Lithuanian Prison Service, in 2024 the number of prisoners in Lithuania was 4,539, of which 3,815 were sentenced to life imprisonment. The number of prisoners is decreasing, but still around 60% of those sentenced to imprisonment re-offend and return to correctional institutions upon release, as many as 67% of prisoners in Lithuanian prisons are considered recidivists, where the person is not the first person to have been convicted after a previous conviction has expired. These statistics reveal the need for quality resocialisation of convicted persons in Lithuania. One of the most important aspects of reducing the number of convicted persons and their recidivism is the restoration and maintenance of relations between the convicted person and his/her family. Maintaining contact with relatives during imprisonment can be a crucial factor in a person's successful reintegration into society, and it is therefore extremely important to create the conditions for convicted persons to see and otherwise communicate with relatives who can positively influence them and provide them with the assistance they need. Aim of the study. To reveal the role of the social worker in restoring and maintaining the relationship between the convicted person and his family. Objectives of the study: 1. To analyse the peculiarities of the family of a person serving a prison sentence. 2. To analyse the different practices of assistance in order to restore and maintain the relationship between the convicted person and his family. 3. To identify the experiences of prisoners in trying to restore and maintain relationships with their families. Subjects: convicts serving prison sentences in Lithuanian prisons and social workers working in Lithuanian places of imprisonment. 10 inmates and 8 social workers were interviewed. Research methods: analysis of scientific sources, semi-structured interviews. Content analysis method was used to analyse the research data. Results. The empirical study revealed that the imprisonment of at least one family member affects all family members, both physically and emotionally, and that there is still no active support for family members of those serving sentences. The role of relatives in the life of the prisoner is often a key factor in promoting internal changes, from positive thinking to motivational elements in the process of resocialisation and integration into society. Social workers working in places of detention use a variety of tools and methods and work in cooperation with other professionals in order to restore and maintain links between prisoners and their families. Social workers play the roles of mediator, motivator, supporter, counsellor, peacemaker and promoter of values by organising different support practices to restore and maintain the relationship between the prisoner and his/her family. For those serving sentences, the relationship with their relatives is particularly important, as all the prisoners in the study, regardless of the nature of the relationship, identified at least one person for whom they feel homesick. Emotional support from relatives is particularly important for inmates, providing motivation and strength, while financial support from relatives is also an indispensable way of support when a prisoner loses the opportunity to take part in work activities. Prisoners appreciate the support provided by their relatives, feel emotionally supported by family members and experience positive changes in their behaviour.
