Problematic aspects of teachers' competence education: Lithuanian case

This paper presents some r esults from a research study aimed to analyze theoretical aspects of competence education, identify problematic areas of Lithuanian teachers’ competence education, and present the possibilities of development of teachers’ competence education. Contemporary teachers experience high expectations for being at the frontier of innovations in their field of expertise, also, at the frontier of innovations in pedagogical methodologies. In the context of modernization of education the use of Open Educational Resourc es (further on: OER) is becoming a priority. Striving of this research was to reveal if current order of competence education ensures proper identification of the need for teachers’ training and qualification refreshment, and if it motivates teachers to acquire or refresh competencies lacking in professional activity by using horizontal and vertical career. The research data revealed that Lithuanian teachers need educational support in use OER as a contemporary source of teaching materials. Another dimensio n emphasized was the fact that teachers may be in need of educational support to become better acquainted with the legal considerations of both using and producing OER.
