The role of LLL in the overmatured situation waiting for reforming of education system and particularly universities system is becoming more and more obvious as a core of the future education model of Lithuania. LLL is though as a main assumption of knowledge restructuring bridging linear model of formal education to work placed learning and economically oriented activities. The study attempts bringing together the different perspectives of LLL starting from historical background to the holistic approach of LLL as the perspective for 21st century, and the role of LLL as a catalyst of structural changes in the society, innovation environment, work organization and management. The particular attention is paid to the role of Lithuanian universities developing the LLL activities and transforming their functional abilities in the development of efficient knowledge processes. The exceptional leitmotif is the role of the universities in the deepening crisis of education system, emphasising that one of the main causes of crisis are undeveloped LLL functions and their inability to establish sustainable and efficient knowledge partnership and collaboration with other sectors. In terms of LLL the above outspreaded spectrum of conceptions manifested the perspectives of holistic model of LLL, integrating different knowledge structures and formations hito organic ambient knowledge environment, by connecting and legitimating the changes of societal development and adaptation to mainstreams of globalisation in the terms of knowledge.
