Abstract

One of the major concerns of modern international community is the protection of human rights. Nowadays a number of international treaties have been set up and constitute not only the catalogue of human rights and freedoms, but also provide the mechanisms for the protection of the said rights, especially in such sensitive sphere as punitive aspect of criminal justice, including the problem of the death penalty.
