This article examines the possibility of the usage of firearms as a response to a sudden attack, i.e. readiness to shoot after the prompt extraction of a firearm from its holster. According to the results of the conducted experiments, the time was fixed during which a person with the basic military training, as well as an experienced shooter, manage to get ready and take the first shot from a firearm. The outcome of the research is relevant not only to the officers of law enforcement institutions, but also to the border guards, as the latter are armed not only with automatic weapons, but with firearms as well.
